Baseball Dream (1974)
A Cross-cultural Mixup
In 1974, I recorded part of a baseball game between the Boston Red Sox and the Cleveland Indians, then mixed it with the first movement (Allegro) of Beethoven's Septet in E-flat Op. 20 for winds and strings. I no longer recall who recorded the Septet, nor who the Boston Red Sox play-by-play and color announcers were at the time. I should have kept better notes.*

I did no editing on the original mix. I simply added the baseball recording to the Beethoven recording and it 'lined-up' naturally in the form that it exists. I have since added 3 tracks of electronic sounds to the mix.

I grew up in a musical AND athletic family in Ohio listening to music on the record player and sports on the radio, sometimes at the same time. I can only imagine that at some point in my early development these mixed-up sounds were making their way into my sub-conscious.

(* Maybe somebody reading this would recognize the announcers' voices and send me an email?)
