Change is Here to Stay (2011)

(for Modified Piano Solo with Signal Processing)

John Holland, Piano, Signal Processing

The music is divided into 12 short movements, each of which is enhanced with a different digital signalling process effect.

The bold integers used in the score are arranged from an original self-generating sequence based on multiple bifurcations of integers 1 to 25. Musical expressions are derived from the 10 elements of musical texture.

The solo piano is digitally modified using simple signal processing effects. Only one effect is assigned to each movement, a total of twelve different effects. No effect is repeated.

The title refers to the universal nature of change. The reason change is constant is because there is no known example of anything in the universe that is not moving.

Change is Here to Stay is one of a set of 8 separate pieces for Solo Piano with Signal Processing.
